Yeah why not! They look good and can be very creative with a lot of visual effects. But the truth is they are not very search engine friendly. For those who have just spent a lot of bucks on creating a flash masterpiece, no need to panic, there are a few ways to help improve your website’s search engine visibility.
The fact that robots can’t read full flash site will means the need to design a feature to display full text content to these smart robots. Which isn’t that cloaking?
We use Flash and still have some very good positions in the SERPs. But we try to keep it to a minimum (Flash headers or isolated elements).
I tend not to recommend flash for more than header graphics and maybe a splash page.
I downloaded a template and it had a flash version and a regular version. Dreamweaver couldn’t read the flash version because of the SWF, so I didn’t make changes. I justed edited the html without flash. I like my finished product but how can I add flash effects to the website without having to change all my edits to the one without flash?
Yeah better try to minimize the use of flash and use it only for the necessary multimedia elements.. Otherwise it will annoy the users… I like flash when used for multimedia elements, but if you overdo it… like 5 picture slideshows, 10 videos, 8 music players all on one page like some people place on myspace… It just wastes the memory and personally i find it annoying…
It still bear in mind that flash does affect a website conversion in some way or another.We try to keep it to a minimum Flash headers.
Flash can be very attractive. You may feel the temptation to put more and more flash on your site because flash is too attractive. But the fact is that you should take care of your viewers why doing so. so my advice will be while putting flash you should be able to control yourself.
