Love this list! Especially no 9 ‘Thou shalt not try to recreate Windows’ Very true
1. Thou shalt not log in as root.
Use “sudo” or “su -” for administrative tasks.
2. Thou shalt use the package manager when possible.
Sometimes installing from source code can’t be avoided, but when you use your distro’s package manager to install software, you can also use it to update and remove it. This is one of the main strengths of Linux.

Yeah I know it’s been done before (about a million times!) so I’m not going to include the standard plugins that we all use. Just some more unusual ones that I’ve found particularly helpful. So here’s my list!
1. Do Follow Spread the link love! Remember to delete any meta tags that you don’t need to be no-follow in your header.php if you change your theme!
2. Search Pages Makes search include pages as well as posts in searches. particularly useful if your using WordPress for a website rather than a blog.
3. Widgetize Anything Great for including PhP code in the sidebar for plugins that aren’t widgetized yet. I’m using it for the ‘Most Viewed’ plugin
4. Genki Announcement Add an anouncement above the first post, in a page or in the sidebar.

There are hundreds (thousands??) of clipart/icon sites on the net. Many send you around in circles with links solely to other lists of sites so finding a good icon site can be a frustrating business. Here’s a short list of sites I use regularly that have completely free, and good quality icons. I use these 3 sites 99% of the time as they have an enormous number of very nice icons.

TechnoBlue by JohnTP is a K2 mod featuring 3 columns. 3c-Fractal is a port of my K2 Fractal style for TechnoBlue. You need to first download and install TechnoBlue in your themes directory. Then make a new directory in the TechnoBlue folder named styles and upload the entire 3c-fractal folder to this directory. 3c-fractal can then be activated in Presentation/TechnoBlue options in your WordPress admin panel.

Another way to increase your site traffic! I came across StumbleUpon Exchange recently. I realise that Stumblers aren’t very sticky but if you keep your site at the forefront for stumblers it’s a way to increase your traffic.
StumbleUpon Exchange (suexchange) is a new service that allows you to post your sites and have them stumbled by other StumbleUpon users.
You earn “Points” by stumbling other user’s sites and you use them by posting your site to be stumbled and having your own site stumbled. You can verify each stumble before you reward Points. You are given 3 Points on sign up, which you can use to post your site to be stumbled. Each stumble they give you cost a point, but once you verify they’ve stumbled your site and given them a Point back you get a Point. This way the stumbles keep coming as does the traffic!
Check it out! If you join through this link I’ll get a few extra points!
