5 Reasons Linux is better than Windows

Totally agree with this. Check it out if you’re still a die-hard Windows user!

I’ve been using Linux for a while now and I have totally fallen for it. Why? I’ll tell you!

1. Linux is free

It seems like a cheap way to start and it is *badum-cha*, but the principle of free software (and I mean free in the sense of freedom) is great when you think about it…….blockquote1.gif

Linux is free is pretty much the only valid argument there. The Linux GUI is trashy imo, design wise it simply is way too outdated to compete with windows or OSX. The software which comes along with it is all rubbish anyways, there’s a reason it comes along free.

Useful stuff like MP3 codecs and such have been pulled out as well from the distro’s due to legal issues and that was just actually one of the few things which was useful for directly being there.

What it offers now is as much rubbish as what windows offers along in the form of notepad, wordpad, calculator, patience and all the other shit it installs for you.

Linux is safe? There’s already been viruses written for linux as well which are capable of spreading just like they’d do on windows. Spyware and such same issue, the reason it just isn’t going on massive is since why would anybody care about it? Linux is as good as dead still with by far a minority on market share.

Linux is open, although open source is nice the majority of the world could probably care less about the fact whether their OS is open or not. Applications ok, you might be able to do something with it but with linux it has simply come to the point of it being annoying now there’s a thousand of different distro’s going around each coming with different standards and eventually causing the downfall of linux if it goes on. There’s no structure to be found anymore, the different distro’s are going apart further and further when it comes to usability.

To slevi and others: I have posted an article replying to your comment. You can read it here: RE: 5 Reasons Linux is better than Windows

hey Bart - haven’t had a chance to reply to Slevi so thanks for doing it!
Slevi - Can I ask when you last actually used Linux?
KDE is much more cutomisable than Windows and if you want flashy graphics try Beryl!
I’ve used linux for over 5 years and never had a problem with viruses, spyware etc. I used a windows box for 2 days without anti-virus and was shut down by my IP for being infected. I didn’t visit unsafe sites or download anything at all.

My distro came with K3B, which is great for CD/DVD burning, Open Office which does everything I want a wordprocessor to do. It even turns powerpoint presentaions into flash. A scanner and OCR program, Kate for simpler word processing tasks, Apache, Mysql and php, I could go on but hopefully you get the point!
When you install Windows you get what? Notepad and messenger and a few trashy games! There’s no comparison!
Oh and of course lots of other free software is available. VLC media player plays anything I throw at it. But then you don’t seem to think software that’s free can be any good , so go ahead and pay for overpriced windows and office!
I guess we’ll just have to agree to differ Slevi

I agree and agree and agree with you.

It is really a good feeling when someone posts something that convinvingly put down “other” OS’S. Too good.

Linux is surely better in many more ways.

I really like the idea of switching to Linux, however there are some draw backs, the software and various applications used by the rest of the company i work fors is all Windows, and frankly i dont have the time to learn how to use linux and then figure out how to use all the same files etc as the rest of the company.

I find my self bouncing between Windows and Linux. I love the sheer power and customization of Linux, but sometimes I like Window’s more comprehensive look of programs and its theme (Aero). Currently I am using Arch Linux and loving it, but I think I might give Windows 7 a try once it is officially released, but I do not know if I will like the new taskbar thing they created there. Perhaps my favorite way to interact with a computer is through GNOME. I especially find it’s multi-menu menu hard to beat. (It is very well organized.)
