How to :Write Code in a Post using Elliot Swan’s Postable

Have you ever wanted to put code into a post without it being interpreted as code? A while ago I was trying to write a page to include code for buttons for my blog. After much struggling with the WYSIWYG editor I eventually managed to write it. If only I had seen this post from Elliot Swan ‘Allow me to introduce you to my new little app Postable’ then it would have been much easier!

Postable is an app to transform your code into Post-friendly code. For example below is a button I made for my blog. I entered the code for the button using the ‘code’ tab in the editor. I then pasted the code into Postable and copied the output below the code for the button. The result below allows me to display the button and also the code for the button below it without it being interpreted as code.

Antigua Web Solutions Blog

Here’s the Code

<a href=”http://antiguawebsolutions.com/myblog” title=”Antigua Web Solutions Blog”><img src=”http://antiguawebsolutions.com/myblog/button_0.gif” alt=”Antigua Web Solutions Blog” style=”border: 0;” /></a>

An easy solution. Bookmark the app for future use!

Increase Your Presence on the Net with Hub Pages

hubpages_120-60.gifI recently came across Hub Pages and so far I’m very impressed. It’s free to join and you can create as many ‘hubs’ as you like. A hub is a web page that you create that can include text, images, links, videos, comments, an RSS feed to your hubs etc. My first hub has drawn some nice traffic to my blog and looking at my stats the visitors stayed around to check out other posts.

Creating a ‘Hub’

The creation interface is easy to use although the WYSIWYG editor is a bit limited. Uploading and placing images is easy and fast. Images can be viewed as static images or in a slideshow. Everything is added to ‘capsules’ which can be dragged and dropped to re-order. For example to insert an image add a ‘photo’ capsule, edit it to upload your image, then drag and drop to place on your page.

WordPress Plugin of the Week - Spam & Trackback Protection

spam_vectorized.pngTwo related plugins this week to protect your blog from spam! I was having a big problem with Akismet labelling almost half of my legitimate comments as spam. I’ve found these two plugins take care of this problem nicely smile.gif

Firefox Addons - Weekly Roundup No 4

This week some addons to help with downloading and uploading!

UnPlug

unplug-firefox-add-ons.jpeg

UnPlug is an extension which lets you save video and audio which is embedded on a webpage - it’s a video download tool.

UnPlug scans web pages and tells you where media players are getting their data from, and displays it as a simple hyperlink: in most cases, you can then follow the simple download link to save the media file.

UnPlug works for lots of sites including youtube.com, ifilm.com, current.tv, revver.com, peekvid.com, video.google.com, mobuzztv.com and lots, lots more. blockquote1.gif

Works great!

WordPress Plugin of the Week- Blogging Zoom Vote Button

zoomlogo.png

This week I’m using ‘WordPress Plugin of the Week’ to introduce BloggingZoom and the Blogging Zoom Vote Button.

BloggingZoom is a new Digg clone especially for us bloggers started by Courtney and Vic. It seems to have got off to a very healthy start and is attracting lots of attention in the blogosphere! You don’t get punished for submitting your own posts and these guys are using their knowledge of search engine ranking to push visitors to your site. I only joined a couple of days ago, submitted one post and already I’ve had more visitors from BloggingZoom than I got from BlogRush in weeks (admittedly that isn’t saying much! but I’ve seen a good increase in my traffic and in RSS subscriptions) I’ve also found some interesting new sites.

Download the Blogging Zoom Vote Button to get the Digg like button featured to the right.

For Blogger users Zybron has written a good tutorial on integrating the Blogging Vote Button on Blogger sites.

Join in, remember to zoom our fellow blogger’s posts and have fun!
