Increase Your Presence on the Net with Hub Pages

hubpages_120-60.gifI recently came across Hub Pages and so far I’m very impressed. It’s free to join and you can create as many ‘hubs’ as you like. A hub is a web page that you create that can include text, images, links, videos, comments, an RSS feed to your hubs etc. My first hub has drawn some nice traffic to my blog and looking at my stats the visitors stayed around to check out other posts.

Creating a ‘Hub’

The creation interface is easy to use although the WYSIWYG editor is a bit limited. Uploading and placing images is easy and fast. Images can be viewed as static images or in a slideshow. Everything is added to ‘capsules’ which can be dragged and dropped to re-order. For example to insert an image add a ‘photo’ capsule, edit it to upload your image, then drag and drop to place on your page.

Adsense and Affiliates

It’s easy to ad Adsense, Amazon or Ebay ads to your hubs and you can choose between low or high number of ads. There’s also a Traffic Referral Program where you can earn a percentage of overall earnings by linking to other hubs.

Linking Your Hubs Together

Once you have more than 1 hub you can link them together in the groups. For example you create a group called ‘blogging’ then you create 3 pages on aspects of blogging, place in your blogging group. Now arrows apear at the bottom of your ‘hubs’ linking the three ‘hubs’ together.

Hub Score

Hub authors (hubbers) and hub pages are scored according to certain criteria. For pages this includes:

  • Amount of traffic, including percentage from sources other than HubPages
  • The length of the Hub (the more unique writing, generally, the better)
  • The uniqueness of content (copying content already available on the Web will be penalized)
  • The number of thumbs-up votes from unique users
  • The overall quality of the Hubber (author HubScore and Status)

A high hub score should lead to more visitors. The score is supposed to be computed in a way to deter spammers by giving a low score to multiple blogs with little or duplicated content.

So far I’m getting some nice results. I’ll report back here when I’ve been a member a little longer to see if I keep up my first good impression!

Any added page is good for search engine optimization. The more pages a site has, the higher quality score is gets at engines. I have yet to work with Hub Pages, but I will keep it in mind the next time I see it as an option in my blog.

So, I went and finally did one and it’s pretty darn easy. I just typed some content that I had filed away for future use, popped in some videos of mine, some RSS feeds, etc. and I was published. This is such a good thing and easy thing to put out there as far as I’m concerned.

HubPages is great, it’s the new Squidoo. Squidoo pages don’t seem to rank well as they used to. Yet another shift in the ongoing struggle.

Hub pages were a real problem for me until reading your post but now everything is very clear. Thanks for your detailed explanations and for the precious things that you share here.

  8. 8 Article Spinning

I agree with you. Using Hubpages now brings a ton of good results, especially if done right. It’s not just enough to put junk content on a hub. Instead if one spends the time to really put good content on hubpages, the results will be very worth the effort. Thanks for sharing.

Hub Pages is far easier than Squidoo … and great traffic for me so far….but like all of the free platforms, you can get dinged without warning and lose all your juice! So beware, and be aware…..

I agree with gurubonus. Hubs is a user friendly blog and SE crawl Hubs faster than squidoo
