How To: Spin your Articles to Avoid Duplicate Content

jetspinner.jpg

Do you submit articles to publicise your site? It’s a good way of getting your web site address out there and there are lots of directories that you can submit articles to. However, if you submit identical articles not only may they be declined by the directory, if they are accepted they’re likely to be relegated to the supplemental index by Google. I know the supplemental index is supposed to be no more (according to Google) but I know it still exists!

How To: More (legitimate!)Ways to Cookie Your Visitors

affiliate_logo.gifIf you have a site selling eBay stuff you might want to provide another way to get your cookie onto their computer even if they are not clicking on an auction. One way is to provide a link to eBay guides with your i.d. embedded in the link. For instance, if you’re selling laptops you may want to make a link to “Laptop Buying Guide” on eBay.

One way to do this is to use eBay’s Flex Tool

php_logo-50×50.pngIf you want to add PHP code to a page in WordPress, for example to add an RSS feed, there are plugins available but it’s very easy to do it without using a plugin. Here’s how!

WordPress eBay Store - How to Do It?

logoebay_x45.gifI’ve been experimenting with using WordPress to make an eBay auction store similar to a BANS (Build a Niche) store. Although BANS works very well and is easy to set up there are advantages to using WordPress instead. These advantages are:

  • a blog is easier to promote (using Technorati, MyBlogLog etc)
  • an enormous no of plugins available to further customise your store
  • using RSS feeds from an advanced search on eBay the searches can be customised in many ways
  • auctions are entered as posts. This means that each item will be indexed by Google. More pages will be indexed and each post will have long-tailed keywords in the title.

So this is how I set up an eBay store using wordPress. Continue reading ‘WordPress eBay Store - How to Do It?’

WordPress Plugin of the Week - WP-o-Matic

wp-o-matic.gif

This week WP-o-Matic a plugin that allows you to set up an ‘auto blog’.

What is an auto blog?

An auto blog (automatically updating blog - not an automobile blog!)is a blog usually set up to make money on line through affiliate programs. The blog is set up to auto update with content from RSS feeds and has adsense or affilliate ads for monetising

WP-o-Matic pulls feeds from any RSS source (I tested it with Google Blogsearch and Yahoo news) and automatically makes posts. Links back to the original article can (and should!) be inserted. It can be set up to update automatically using the inbuilt WordPress feature or by setting up a cron job on a Unix server.

I’ve trying it out on a site I’m in the process of setting up and it’s working flawlessly. It can also pull images if they are present in the RSS feed. It could also be used with eBay and Amazon feeds but I haven’t tried this out.
