I’ve been meaning to post some info on keyword sniping for some time so my apologies for taking a while to do this.
There are a lot of things you need to know about other aspects of internet marketing in addition to the keyword sniping (KS) technique and I can’t address everything in one post so I’ll concentrate on the techniques I use and skip over some of the other stuff.
Choose Your Niche
Choose your niche - this is vital to the success of KS. Then choose at least 2 good keywords. For keyword research I use Google Adwords Keyword Tool. If you intend to make money from Google Adsense then click on the show/hide columns and choose Show Estimated Avg. CPC You will need to pick keywords with a reasonable high CPC. If you are new to IM choose keywords that have more than 5,000 searches a month and less than 30,000 competing sites.
Set Up Your Site
The whole point of keyword sniping is that your whole site is optimised for 1 or 2 keywords. The keywords should to be in the domain name, and must be in the title, the description and in the content on the home page. You will need to add at least 10 pages of good content to the site all about your keywords. If you’re using WordPress you can remove the dates from the posts to make them all look like pages rather than posts. On each of the pages make a link with your keyword as the anchor back to the homepage. Pages should be at least 300 words long.
Some Points about the Site Structure
- You need the title tag on every page. If you are using WordPress you can use the All-In-One SEO Pack plugin it do this.
- A link in the footer to point to your homepage using the keywords as anchor text.
- On the home page keywords should be included about seven times. This will be okay if you have a least 1000 words of text so you could set your home page to have four posts appearing all with your keywords in them.
Back Links to Your Site
Most importantly you need to get links to your site using your keywords. Vary the anchor text, don’t have all of the anchor text exactly the same. Use your keywords that mix them up a bit with different words.
You need to get links that are on relevant pages. The best way to do this is to submit articles you have written yourself. I’ve been using Article Marketer to submit articles recently. Although it is a paid service I’m finding that it is much faster than ISnare which I was using and they also look at your article and check that they are formatted correctly for the article directories. Most articles have been approved and submitted within 1 working day. ISnare lately has been taking more than 2 weeks. For some of the sites I have made I only needed 2 articles distributed to a range of article directories to rank high in SERPS. Of course it depends on the competition so you will need to add more if you don’t get the ranking.
How Long Does it Take?
It won’t hapopen overnight so don’t despair! It took a minimum of two months to begin to rank well and some sites took much longer. Submit another article if you don’t see results within about 2 months.

This is a good technique. If perfected, you stand to increase your traffic substantially and if you have good content people should actually browse your site and click on ads. This is pretty much what I do. Regards!
Its nice to see your post once again. I learn wordpress and establishing website from your blog only and now one more new thing to me and that is keyword.
I heard about this a lot. But seems to me that you will give the clear idea about this.
Once again Janet, I am benefiting immensely from the information you post on this site. I have learned some very valuable info about fine tuning a niche site for keywords and back linking.
Cheers

Very useful Information exactly for me to optimize keyword related to my blog
If this can be done in two months that would be great,
I think it might take a lot more than that.
Thanks, That was interesting.
nice
Keyword sniping is an excellent strategy for optimize the site. The strategy focuses on developing website around one highly focused keyword phrase.Over the next few weeks I will be developing a plan to implement keyword sniping.

Really it is interesting post and I like to read it and thanks for sharing it.
“You will need to add at least 10 pages of good content to the site all about your keywords.”
That’s not neccesary, but it’s good to use it. One of my sites, has only got about 3 pages and still it’s 5th result on google. But it’s true, that it is not “useless” site, it does what it supposed to - edit pictures. Who knows, I’ll try to add some more content and hopefully it traffic will increase.
how about submitting articles to social networks? is this a good move too?
Very useful information because when you choose your blog keywords you can skip some important keywords that can help you with your search engine optimization.
This informations is very useful for me because my website is new and I have a few keywords so far. Thank you!
Since I have launched a whole new web site. Hence, thanks for the info…..!
Really keywords keep important role for site improvement. It is also right that the main keywords always must be involve in main domain and title. Absolutely it is very inspiring and provoking post for newbie as well as us.
It is keywords that make a site good. but we should avoid keywords stuffing. keywords must be counted in title also.
I know this is not a magical thing to do but choosing a good profitable niche is something more than magic. If you go good with that then you will rock in future. I am pretty new to IM but I learned a lot and earned a lot.
Thanks for the pointers. They are very useful. Hope to see your new updates soon !
Great Tips, Thanks janetra………….
good tips for blog makers ans google searchers. How a meaningful keywords help to improve the site page rank. It is good idea that article must be at least 300 words long and keywords must be involved in main tile and every page’s main tag.
Keywords and quality content are my trusted and time-proven tools on improving my site page rank. But I do not stop looking for something useful to learn.
Picking a profitable blog niche that is of personal interest can be a difficult process, not to mention that you’ll have to single out a niche amongst an almost infinite number of unique topics.
Remember that the search engines goal is to produce the most relevant results to a searchers request. The foremost and most important thing to do when optimizing your site
“A link in the footer to point to your homepage using the keywords as anchor text.”
I think that this is a little misleading….
It’s becoming clear that search engines are getting better at page segmentation, and footer links are becoming less valuable.
I was wondering how to choose the correct keyword as in how much in average search should I consider to use that keyword. Thanks!
Before go through this post its was a quest how can make my blog, which types keywords, about structure and so on. But now i am full satisfy. Thanks a lot for satisfaction. what a gorgeous post……….!
Hi,
Stunned insights. Article marketer is pretty good tool for article submission. I didnt heard about Isanare now i’ll check it for article submission.
Hi,
Choosing keywords from niche + product + brand name + targeted on appropriate page, will give you rankings on serps with quality effort of building link through article submission, blogging or directory submission.
The reason why keyword sniping works so well is because most big name companies aren’t going to build an entire site based solely on a long tail keyword. Instead, they will build a sub-page and link to it.
Thanks alot for giving the google adwords tools for finding the synonymous keywords and phrases.
Website ranking involves more than just putting your website online. The old addage, “Build it and they will come” is no longer true. You need to not only have quality content on your website but also focus on getting good backlinks but also relevant backlinks. The kind of links you gather and where the link is placed on the other site will also determine the amount of traffic you get and your ranking in the search engines.
Keyword Sniping should not be a means to an end. It should be the beginning of understanding implementing other more advanced SEO strategies. In other words, you should take this, test it out and then expound on it with future sites. Normally, I would say that the next step would be to looking into siloing websites for SEO purposes.
thanks! for sharing this article. It will help those peoples who want to increase traffic on their web sites and are new to the world of web.
Its keyword that help it to get top search engine list but it must be……..
The niche is the most important. You want that one thing that people want. Its a tricky thing.
Normally allowing the tag and category pages to be indexed is a fine idea because a properly optimized Wordpress theme will show only a excerpt of the post. You end up with a page of mixed up excerpts, so duplicate content is less of a concern. The concern on the Grizzly theme is that it does not use excerpts and the theme is designed to use one post per page.
My suggestion would be to reduce the key phrases in your Meta Tags-description and keywords. The more keywords in these tags-the less the importance given to the main keywords by SEs. A page should be optimized for at the most 3-5 keywords/phrases and these should be also be included in the Page content, Title, keywords, description, Alt, title in href, header and footer.
That’s the problem I have with search engine optimization, it takes way too long to get your results back. I just try to hang in there because it will help in the long run.
This is a really great site with alot of good well written post.Found this today via google will i was killing some time.I will be coming back and hopefully be able to contribute to the site. Thanks
I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog.
I like to run Google Adwords (paid campaigns) for a few weeks and then choose the keywords that worked best there. The competition rates usually translate into organic results well too.
The niche to develop such an interesting website is hard to be found. Your keyword sniping idea is a good way to develop some traffic, although I still prefer the classic method.
you can use keyword sniping to get ranked for almost any keyword, some keywords will be easier than others and I would recommend starting with something that won’t be incredibly difficult.
With keyword sniping you have a short term goal of finding a keyword phrase to build a blog around and then make it highly competitive for search traffic. You are not looking at the daunting task of creating years and years of content before you see a return for your efforts. A short cycle strategy like this is great for building skills and hopefully making a profit.
Some people took the word ’sniping’ to mean something negative and wrongly assumed that it was some kind of spammy strategy. If there is one thing that you can absolutely rely on in the online world is that people will misunderstand you, misinterpret, disagree with you, and probably flame you too!
I have made I only needed 2 articles distributed to a range of article directories to rank high in SERPS. Of course it depends on the competition so you will need to add more if you don’t get the ranking.
