Thirty Day Challenge

I’m a bit slow at putting up this post as the challenge started on August 1st (my apologies) but better late than never I hope. I’ve been following along with the Thirty Day Challenge (30DC) and found some good information there. It’s aimed at complete newbies to internet marketing (IM) to take you through all the steps to get a web site online and earning (at least $1 in 30 days)

This is the second year that the Thirty Day Challenge has been online and it seems to be successful. Everything the team uses is free (at least for the 30 days) although they do have a follow up course that costs. There is no hard marketing to buy it however, which I like, I hate in-your-face marketing techniques! Obviously they are hoping that you like the 30 day information so much you will subscribe to the advanced marketing courses. I’m a bit too busy right now to actually go through all the steps of the Thirty Day Challenge and a lot of the information is stuff I’m already doing for my BANS and keyword sniping sites, but there’s a some new stuff for me to learn in there. Plugins for Keyword Sniping

I can access my websites on Blue Host (at last!) No idea what the problem was but, as I said earlier, it seems to have been a server somewhere between me and the hosting server.

Here’s a list of the plugins I’ve found most useful on my keyword sniping sites. Hope you find it useful!

All in one SEO Pack Always essential for any WordPress site of course!

Category Posts Widget Put your posts in different categories then display by category in the sidebar

Dagon Design Sitemap Generator Easy to use sitemap generator

Google Sitemaps Always need a Google sitemap!

WordBay Only needed if you’re displaying eBay auctions

WordPress Related Posts Helps SEO by internally linking your posts

WP-DBManager Excellent, easy to use, database backup manager. Automatically finds your database (and the absolute path to it). Can be set to email you the database at regular intervals.

WP tags to Technorati Changes your tags to Technorati tags then displays them after posts (or anywhere else you want)

That’s all the plugins I’m using. One of the reasons I love WordPress is that, whatever I’ve wanted to do I’ve found a plugin to do it! Anyone have suggestions for other useful plugins?

Experiment in keyword Sniping - Report 1

It’s a month since I set up my keyword sniping experiment so here’s a report on the progress so far.

Total visitors 659

Google 347 MSN 96 Live 33 Referring sites 122 Direct Traffic 27

Keyword A position in Google After 1 week 125 After 1 month 97

Keyword B position in Google After 1 week 106 After 1 month 68

keyword B is a seasonally affected keyword that has few visitors in the summer. The trend starts to increase in August so I expect that to have an influence on the no of visitors. Probably not the best keyword to use for my experiment!

So my number of visitors is a little disappointing but probably expected as I am not optimising for long-tailed keywords with few visitors but trying to eventually get more visitors by targeting harder keywords. My positions are coming down and I still have directories and article sites yet to approve my submissions. I’ll leave it for a while then try to submit some more articles.

Problems with My Connection

I want to apologise for not replying to comments this week and the  lack of new posts.  Last weekend  we had a  storm here and something knocked out my telephone line. My internet connection has been terrible all week and although intermittently I can access the internet I cannot access the websites I have on my Blue Host server. At least 99% of the time, very occasionally they load then disappear again. It doesn’t appear to be the hosts fault as my sister in the UK can access them fine. In addition it was a holiday weekend (its Carnival) so I couldn’t even get anyone at the company until Wednesday. It’s now Friday and still no one has been to check my line! Being very busy at school all week I decided I’d find time today to post something and would you believe it the whole network of the IP at school was down for the whole island, all day! Oh the joys of living in the Caribbean!

So I’m writing this in the brief time that I managed to load my blog and hoping I can post it!

5 Reasons Linux is better than Windows

Totally agree with this. Check it out if you’re still a die-hard Windows user!

blockquote.gif5 Reasons Linux is better than Windows

I’ve been using Linux for a while now and I have totally fallen for it. Why? I’ll tell you!

1. Linux is free

It seems like a cheap way to start and it is *badum-cha*, but the principle of free software (and I mean free in the sense of freedom) is great when you think about it…….blockquote1.gif
